Understanding & Leveraging The Role of the Integrator in EOS®

What is an EOS® Integrator’s Role in Business?

An Integrator is a person who works alongside the Visionary to execute their ideas. Together, this duo can lead the company forward in growth and ensure smooth sailing along the way. While it is crucial both the Integrator and Visionary work together, it can be ineffective to have one person acting in both the Visionary and Integrator Roles. So, what exactly are the benefits of hiring an Integrator? What exactly does an Integrator do?

EOS® Integrator as defined in Rocket Fuel

Defined by Rocket Fuel, an “Integrator runs the day-to-day of an organization. Integrators are usually very good at leading, managing, and holding people accountable in an organization. This role operates at a more detailed level than a Visionary and removes any obstacles that may interfere with people executing.

An Integrator is the type of person who is obsessed with organizational clarity. They are great at making sure people are communicating within the organization. Integrators are fanatical about resolution and forcing conclusions. They are great at managing big organizational projects. They are masters of follow-through. When priorities need to be set for the organization and everyone must be aligned with those priorities, they are right at home, keeping everyone laser-focused and driving results. They create organizational focus and accountability. Integrators create organizational lucidity, enabling the right hand to know what the left hand is doing—keeping everyone in sync. The Integrator has the powerful ability to point a group of people all in the same direction. The Integrator focuses on making sure we all live and breathe our Core Values.

It’s about continuously developing new ways of solving problems and making sure those new solutions are executed and communicated throughout the organization. The Integrator is the “Voice of Reason” in the organization.”

EOS® Visionary vs. Integrator

A Visionary in a business is the person who excels in coming up with a plan or vision to make the business a success. The Visionary sees the company's future and continuously generates ideas on scaling, improving, and creating new goals. They often see the bigger picture. The Integrator role is a person who executes the ideas of the Visionary. The Integrator role is a much more detail-oriented person and can focus on the smaller, day-to-day tasks that allow the big picture to come together. The Visionary and Integrator belong as separate positions that work well together to make it all happen.

Why Does an EOS®Integrator Matter in Business?

Having an Integrator is crucial to the success of your business as this role leads, scales, and executes while also keeping other employees on track and often acting as a coach and mentor. Integrators are excellent at ensuring efficient communication within the organization and can be relied on to keep others on task with their individual priorities. Projects are often managed better with Integrators at the helm. Goals that are set are seen to completion because of their ability to drive results. Integrators create focus and accountability across the board.

What Makes a Good EOS® Integrator?

A good Integrator can see the Visionary's vision and knows how to properly use their resources to accomplish the goal. Working with their team to organize, prioritize and focus on details, they efficiently run day-to-day operations to satisfy the main objective. The person who assumes the Integrator role is self-motivated with the ability to lead a team and resolve conflicts that may hold up the timeline of important projects.

Key Attributes of a Good Integrator

There are many respectable traits of an Integrator, and when you are in the hiring process, you should look for the following attributes in a person:

- Excellent planning abilities
- Ability to self-manage
- Strong leader and management skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Decisive
- Organized
- Goal-oriented
- Ability to resolve conflict
- Persuasive
- Willingness to constantly learn and evolve
- Coaching and mentoring ability

What Would Hiring an Integrator Do For Your Company?

Having an Integrator can make all the difference when it comes to the growth and organization of your business. When you bring a designated Integrator on board, you allow the person in that role to take over the details that may be missed otherwise. The Visionary is allowed to focus on planning working more efficiently on the future of the company. At the same time, the Integrator knows the critical details and tasks that need to be done to see their vision come to fruition. When there is conflict or confusion about job duties or priorities, the Integrator can step in to help resolve any turbulence keeping all departments on task and working together.
